Post-operative
Instructions
After
initiation of endodontic treatment
- Endodontic treatment
has been started on your tooth/teeth. The treatment will most likely
be completed upon your next visit.
- Take medications
as directed. The treated tooth may be tender for the next few days to
a week, depending on the nature of the degeneration or infection of
the diseased tooth.
- Bathing the tooth
in warm salt water rinses (1/2 tsp. of salt in a glass of water) 3-4
times daily will greatly aid in decreasing the soreness in the area.
- Avoid chewing
on the tooth until the tooth is restored to avoid fracturing or damaging
the tooth.
- Brush your teeth
as usual.
- Should the tooth
become very uncomfortable, or if swelling develops, please call our
office.
After
completion of endodontic treatment
- Endodontic treatment
has been completed on your tooth/teeth. The root canals have been permanently
sealed.
- However, the outer
surface is sealed only with a temporary filling and must be restored
permanently by your dentist.
- Please phone your
dentist for an appointment. He/she will be sent a copy of your x-rays
and will want to place a permanent restoration (filling or crown) in
order to protect your tooth against fracture or decay. This should be
done as soon as practical.
